But other than that theres not much else to the game, theres a hub menu where you can listen to some songs from the Sorting Hat, yay? And then theres Fawkes here, and from what we can tell all you do is this. Yeah your face was terrifying, you just scanned your nose and eye so your character had some weird mutant nose on the side of his face and one giant eye. I dont think we should show them that Bajo. I did have some fun with the face scanning feature tho which lets you put your face into the game instead of Harry. I know thats how magic is meant to work but it doesn't make it less annoying. Yeah, and the way they say the name of the spell every single time they cast it gets really grating.

You can usually just spam any spell and win. Which sounds kinda fun in theory but theres just barely any strategy really. All you do is shout out the name of your magic spell and wave your hand like a wand to cast it. You are awarded up to five stars for completing levels based on how well you play, and this is clearly designed to encourage replaying levels however only Muggles would want to, once is more than enough.Īnd youd think things would pick-up in the magic battles, but no. Its one thing to make games simple for a wide audience, and simple can be fun, but not in this case. And theres really only a few games repeated in various ways, running through a maze or battling a tree are essentially the same game of jumping, ducking and leaning.Īffirmative. Yeah, Quidditch for example is just leaning to dodge some obstacles and punching when someone gets close to you, it totally fails to capture the excitement of a match.

Theres certainly lots of variety but the problem is theres very little gameplay to any of them, theyre just not fun. So youll take potion class with Professor Snape. Yeah, many of the major scenes from all eight films have been turned into their own little mini-games. The actual controls are responsive and work but the game is just really boring. But this ranks among some of the worst the Kinect has to offer in my opinion. If Im being honest Im not a big fan of Kinect even at the best of times.

So the question is, can Harry Potter for Kinect finally pull off some magic? Yeah, outside of LEGO Harry Potter there hasn't been much to rave about. Harry Potter, he may have captured our imaginations in books and films but when it comes to games, he really hasn't cast a spell on our hearts. But I have a sneaking suspicion that I know the answer.Ahh. My only question is whether this will satisfy my partner, AJ, or if I will still have to spring for a vacation to Orlando soon to see the Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios Orlando. And to add some extra drama, the game was demoed by the actors who play the Weasley twins in the Harry Potter movies. (Harry's big with the Beyond Binary staff.)Įlectronic Arts showed off the game during its press conference at the Gamescom event in Germany. If I had any lingering doubts that I would get a Kinect, I think that they were quashed on Wednesday, when I saw this demo of a Kinect-capable version of a Harry Potter game. But I have been keen on Kinect since I first got to try out Project Natal last year. I like my Wii well enough, but find that I get a blister or sore arm before I get a real workout. Traditional console gaming held little appeal. I love sports and games, but am not much for having to map natural actions to a couple buttons on a controller. I've been wanting something like Kinect since I played with an early precursor a few years ago and used GestureTek's setup early last year.

I've even been trying to figure out which messy room in my house is best suited to give me the space I need to move around. I was already planning to spring for an Xbox 360 and Kinect add-on, when it comes out this holiday season. It appears that Microsoft's Kinect box will also let Harry Potter fans transport themselves to Hogwarts.
